ASLRRA VETERANS ENGAGEMENT AWARD

ASLRRA’s Veterans Engagement Award honors railroad members that demonstrate positive policies toward U.S. veterans and that implement unique programs and practices to hire, recognize, support and engage veterans in the workplace and the broader community.

Only individual ASLRRA Class II and III railroad members are eligible for this award. Parent and holding companies cannot submit a nomination as a single entity, but each railroad owned by a holding company can submit its own nomination.

Questions should be answered with as much detail as possible, when applicable, and include measurable outcomes if available.

Given the total number of military-affiliated employees at the railroad, what percentage of the railroad’s overall workforce in 2025 does this group represent?

Please list any veteran employee promotions that took place in 2025.

To evaluate veteran employee retention, please indicate the number of veteran, Reserve/National Guard and/or active-duty military spouse employees at the beginning and end of 2025.

Describe your company’s veteran-specific recruiting partnerships for candidate sourcing. This can include ongoing/previously established relationships and/or new ones started during the 2025 award year, however special consideration will go to new and unique partnerships.

Describe your company’s internal veteran employee recognition initiatives in 2025, such as meals, challenge coins, veteran-only days off, newsletter mentions, etc. with an emphasis on new and unique efforts.

Describe your company’s external veteran awareness initiatives, such as veteran-themed locomotive wraps and decals, media mentions, press releases, etc. This can include new initiatives in 2025 or ongoing efforts from the recent past (i.e., within the past three years), with special consideration for new and unique initiatives.

Describe how your company has worked with and for veteran community and outreach organizations during the 2025 award year, such as making charitable donations, completing volunteer projects, sponsoring fundraising events. Provide as much detail as possible.

Share any additional information from the award year that demonstrates your railroad’s exceptional veterans engagement efforts.
