  • We require certain operational details to process your application. Operation Start Date and Gross Operating Revenues are NOT published and are held in strict confidence.. 

  • Note: Carrier Gross Operating Revenue includes revenue from freight, switching, car hire, water transfers, demurrage, incidental, joint facility (debit and credit), transfers from government authorities for current operations and amortization of deferred transfers from government authorities. It DOES NOT include income from property used in other than carrier operations, car storage income, miscellaneous rent income, revenue from separately operated properties, dividend income, interest income, income from sinking and other funds, release of premiums of funded debt, contributions from other companies, income from affiliates and miscellaneous non-operating income.

  • RAILROAD MEMBER DUES: Full membership is open to any Class II or III freight railroad in the continental or territorial U.S., Mexico or Canada. Associate Railroad Membership is also available for companies that provide switching services or offer transit, tourist or excursion operations.

    • Class III Railroad Dues: $10.17 per $1,000 annual railway operating revenue based on a maximum threshold of $1,492,650; Class III minimum dues are $2,175 and maximum dues are $15,180.
    • Class II Railroad Dues: $20,585 per year
    • Canadian and Mexican Railroad Dues: $2,175 per year
    • Switching Railroad Dues: $2,175 per year
    • Tourist or Transit Railroad Dues: $2,175 per year

    NOTE: Dues payments to the ASLRRA are not deductible as charitable contributions for federal income tax purposes, but may be deductible as a business expense. Please consult your tax adviser. The portion of annual dues attributable to lobbying activities is not deductible. Currently, 20% of members' dues are not deductible.

  • Multiple Member Dues Computation Schedule:

    • Members with 2 member companies will pay 75% of dues based on current revenue rate and caps.
    • Members with 3 – 9 individual member companies will pay 60% of dues based on current revenue rate and caps.
    • Members with 10 – 19 individual member companies will pay 55% of dues based on current revenue rate and caps.
    • Members with 20 – 44 individual member companies will pay 50% of dues based on current revenue rate and caps.
    • Members with 45 or more individual member companies will pay 45% of dues based on current revenue rate and caps and $2,025 for subset railroads** and Canadian carriers will be comped.

    ** Subset railroads are defined as railroad operations with a direct connection to another small railroad owned by the same holding company. There can only be one subset per railroad and the railroad with the highest gross operating revenue must be the full member.

  • First-year dues are pro-rated. Membership will not commence until dues payment is received. Once processed, you will receive a welcome email from the Association outlining your benefits and receive credentials for accessing online member resources and discounts.
